Management training vital in economic downturn

“Cutting training budgets in response to the “credit crunch” could be false economy in the long term” according to Sarah Harvey, Managing Director of SPM. “In particular organisations should be investing in their managers in the current climate as effective performance management becomes even more important to business success”.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has recently advised that the best way to improve productivity across the workforce is to concentrate spending on front line managers. Their research suggests that just 37% of employees believe their manager helps to improve their performance and poor people management remains one of the biggest causes of stress and conflict at work.
